Everything the RV Renter Needs to Know
When renting an RV in Alabama one place that you should certainly visit at least for a few days is Noccalula Falls Park. It provides amazing views, fantastic photo opportunities, activities, and so much more.
Noccalula Falls Park is designed for travelers of all sorts, but RVers are not only encouraged to visit the park but stay at the campground right inside the park. This 250-acre park is home to miles of trails, and a 90-foot waterfall that is its main attraction. As you might imagine, there’s a lot to do and see here, and the surrounding area and the city of Gadsden is also a must-see.
The Black Creek runs right through the park and is what the falls come from. All along and throughout the park, there are hiking and biking trails for you to adventure on. It provides you with hours of beautiful sights to see and is a great way for you to view the wildlife that can be found in the park.
There are 15 miles of trails in total.
Started in 2000 with just a few animals, the petting zoo is a popular area for families. The zoo has now expanded with more animals, including house birds, fish, rabbits, hamsters, two llamas, several small goats, and a giant tortoise.
There’s also a barn for the petting zoo with an outdoor area. This area houses birds, coatimundis “Jenks the Lynx,” Black and Arctic Foxes, “Bam the Sheep,” “Zeus the Goat.”
The botanical gardens at Noccalula Falls Park is one of the most beautiful areas. It is full of vibrant colors and some exotic plants. It’s a fantastic example of what a garden can be and features a sensory garden, alphabet garden, perennial beds, annual beds, a water feature, and a pergola.
Everyone loves a train ride, right? The C.P. Huntington Train is an excellent way for you and your family to see the park. The train operates every day and takes riders on a scenic one-mile ride. It can be a great way for you to experience the entire park without wandering around on foot.
The falls are the most scenic area of the park. The water drops a full 90 feet into the Black Creek gorge. The waterfall is naturally fed by rainwater, so it will look different from time to time. If rainfall is heavy, the area around the falls can flood, too, so keep an eye on the weather when you’re planning on visiting.
It’s also important to note that the Gorge Trail passes right underneath the falls. This lets you get some of the most amazing views of the falls from a unique angle.
Are you a golf fan? Heck, even if you’re not, there’s little doubt you’ll find the mini-golf course at the park a whole lot of fun.
This course features a beautifully landscaped layout that takes you through some beautiful natural features in the park, including rock formations, streams, small falls, and more. Hours and availability vary depending on the season. Admission is $5 or less depending on age and number of players.
There are numerous other outdoor activities you can partake in, including picnicking, jogging, fishing, and more. There are park buildings and facilities on-site where you can get some snacks, maps, and more. One thing is for sure, you’ll not be bored while you’re here.
The campground within the park is going to be the most convenient. It offers over 120 campsites, many of which are full-hookup campsites. The campground is gated to keep the campers secluded and safe during their stay. It’s recommended that you make a reservation before arriving.
It’s a very modern campground with all of the amenities you’d expect to find at a well-equipped campground. These amenities include the following:
You can learn more about the campground on the website.
Located west of Gasden, The Cove RV Resort and Campground is another fantastic place to stay. It’s roughly a 15-minute drive to Noccalula Falls Park from The Cove, so it’s a viable option. The campground features a pool, 22-acre lake, showers and restrooms, full-hookup campsites, free Wi-Fi and cable, and a laundry room.
Another campground to the west of Gasden is Big Willis Creek Campground. This campground is also about a 15-minute drive to Noccalula Falls. This campground offers plenty for campers to love, including access to tubing right on the creek by the campground. The campground itself features full-hookup campsites for RVs, bathroom and shower facilities, laundry facilities, and a more. It’s a family-focused camping environment.
Located on the Coosa River, this is one of the best places to stay in the Gadsden area of Alabama in your RV. River Rocks Landing is an RV resort that offers pull-through RV campsites that are full-hookup sites. They also offer cable and Wi-Fi. The park offers swimming pools and splash pad, boat launch, fishing piers, a clubhouse, laundry facilities, an RV supply store, and more.
Inside the park there are not restraurants for you and your family to eat at. There are plenty of places for you to picnic and have a meal, but you’ll need to bring your food with you. The park’s focus is not on providing food options to visitors. With Gadsden full of wonderful options, it’s best to just get your food and meals outside of the park.
There are plenty of dining options near Noccalula Falls Park. You can eat close to the park. There are some smaller restaurants right around the park, but the selection is limited.
When that time comes, you’ll need to head to Gadsden, where you can find a great list of restaurants to choose from. You can get everything from pizzas and your typical bar food to Thai, Italian, and, of course, BBQ. Make sure to check out BBQ restaurants and also try some catfish while you’re in the area. It’s a local specialty and quite simply a must-have.
No matter where you dine near Noccalula Falls Park, you should have a wonderful time there and be able to have an unforgettable experience camping near the falls.
